Shelter while we wait: SHIFTPODS

North Valley Housing Trust is coordinating with Advanced Shelter Systems to bring SHIFTPODS to Butte County households displaced by the Camp Fire who have not been able to secure stable housing. SHIFTPODS are an innovative hexagonal shelter that offers insulation, complete darkness, and respite from the withering heat or bitter cold. They are often used at the world’s leading art and music festivals but because they can be lived for over two years, SHIFTPODS are also used in disaster relief throughout the globe. Advanced Shelter Systems donated a small amount of SHIFTPODS to North Valley Housing Trust and our team delivered them same day to Angels Among Us, an organization in Magalia currently providing meals, showers and laundry for people still staying on the ridge since the disaster. According to Angels Among Us Founder Julz, many of the households they serve are sleeping in tents, vehicles and makeshift shelters - some that were impacted by recent storms. The Housing Trust is looking to expand this program by providing SHIFTPODS to additional organizations who are serving households doubled up in homes with friends or family or living in vehicles or tents.
